Report summary
The Iijima zinc smelter uses roast, leach, electrowin technology to produce zinc. But it is unique in that it uses the haematite process based around pressure leaching to treat its leach residue. The current capacity is 220kt/a slab zinc. Although operated by Akita Zinc the Iijima smelter should not be confused with the closed zinc smelter called Akita.
