Detour Lake is Canada’s largest gold‑producing mine and hosts the country’s biggest gold reserves. Situated in the northern Abitibi Greenstone Belt, it was first operated as an underground mine by Placer Dome from 1987 to 1990, then restarted as an open‑pit operation in 2013 under Detour Gold Corporation. Agnico Eagle acquired its interest in the mine on February 8, 2022. The operation processes ore through a conventional circuit involving crushing, grinding, gravity separation, cyanidation, and carbon‑in‑pulp to recover gold.
