Report summary

Mining commenced in 1953 in the north-east of the claim area adjacent to Blyvooruitzicht.  During its early years Doornfontein exploited relatively high grade ore.  However a series of 2-3,000ft downthrow faults to the west broke up the ground, and gold distribution was more erratic.  An erosion channel eliminated the Carbon Leader in the west much sooner than expected.  This channel eliminated ore reserves in a large area of the western part of the lease area when the mine was almost wholly...
