The El Aouj mine is a proposed open-pit iron ore operation in the Tiris-Zemmour area of Northern Mauritania. It is a 50:50 joint venture between Glencore and SNIM. In Phase 1, the El Aouj “East” deposit, would produce 11 Mtpa of 66.5% Fe concentrate. A Feasibility Study for Stage 1 of the development of the El Aouj East deposit was completed at the end of 2015 but no further work has been undertaken. The life of Stage 1 of the operation is 41 years, Once the Stage 1 project is established the process plant and mine design has incorporated the option to double the capacity of the mine to 22 Mtpa, but we have only modelled Stage 1 at this point in the projects development.
