Fort Knox is an open pit gold mine and is owned and operated by Kinross. The mine has a capacity of 92Mt/a whilst the ore is treated either via conventional agitated vat leaching (lower grade ore) or heap leached (lower grade ore). Based on year end 2016 reserves a mine life up to 2021 is assumed.
