Freeport Kokkola Cobalt Refinery
Report summary
Operated by Freeport Cobalt Oy, the Kokkola cobalt refining plant is located in Kokkola in Western Finland. The plant is a joint venture between Freeport-McMoRan (56%), Lundin Mining Corporation (24%), Gécamines (20%). The company did produce cobalt sulphate and cobalt tetroxide from crude cobalt hydroxide. In 2019, Freeport Cobalt sold its cobalt chemical refining lines and cathode precursor business to Umicore but retained its cobalt powder production lines.
