Gamsberg zinc mine
Report summary
The Gamsberg zinc mine is located between the towns of Aggeneys and Pofadder, in the Northern Cape Province of South Africa. Conventional open pit mining is carried out to mine 4 Mt/a of ore to produce 250 kt/a of zinc in concentrate. Pre-stripping activity was completed in June 2018. First ore feed into concentrator and trial production started in September 2018. First concentrate shipment was achieved in December 2018. Wood Mackenzie’s asset reports are built from the bottom up, incorporating a number of granular data metrics to ultimately produce our industry standard cash operating costs. This report contains a detailed asset note giving you a holistic view of the asset, including an operational overview through to a timeline of events from inception to now. This qualitative analysis is supplemented by the associated Excel download which enables interrogation of a whole series of cost and production metrics over the life of the asset.
