Garpenberg copper mine
Report summary
Garpenberg mine and mill has been in operation since 1953 and the original mine infrastructure including the main production shaft was located a long distance from active stopes. As a consequence, the mine and mill has undergone multiple expansions, first from 1.5Mt/a to 2.5Mt/a with a new production shaft servicing the mine and new concentrator. Between 2017 and 2020, another expansion raised throughput to 3Mt/a. Limited additional capex was needed and was used for a paste plant and mill de-bottlenecking, development, and a tailings expansion. In 2022, the mine has set its focus on expanding production to 3.3Mt/a by 2023.
