Geita gold mine
Report summary
Geita is a combined open-pit and underground mining operation with ore extraction from multiple deposits. Underground mining commenced in 2016 at Star & Comet deposits, and at Nyankanga in 2017. Underground operations have continued to ramp-up now comprising the Star, Comet, Nyankanga and Geita Hill deposits. Open pit mining at Nyankanga was completed in 2020 with production at the Nyamulilima open pit commencing in April 2021 targeting full production in 2022. Geita is expected to continue operating as a mixed operation until open-pit mineral reserves are depleted. Ore is processed in a 5.2Mt/a carbon-in-leach (CIL) plant with two Knelson concentrators for gravity recovery.
