Commodity Market Report
Global graphite short-term outlook February 2022
Report summary
In February, graphite production came back online in China following the Lunar New Year festival which marks the end of the winter shutdown period. Markets looked to the reopening of supply to put an end to the rising prices of Q4 2021 that had carried through to January – a result of the power availability issues and high electricity costs in China. Price rises slowed in February and this trend is set to continue into March. Meanwhile, global EV sales growth continues at pace, increasing demand for graphite in the battery sector. This is tightening supply availability for battery-grade natural flake and synthetic graphite products.
