The graphite industry entered 2022 with overhanging uncertainty amid Chinese power availability issues and supply disruption that continue to push up prices. Meanwhile, unprecedented battery demand is on the horizon that could reshape the sector’s supply chains. Global sales of electric vehicles hit a record high in 2021 and natural flake graphite projects rush to realise production and be the first to establish themselves as the new link in an ex-China supply chain. Meanwhile, China continued to increase its imports of raw material flake graphite from Africa in January to feed its growing domestic battery industry.
