The graphite industry continued to stabilise in June with the withdrawal of Covid-19 restrictions in China, leading to a relatively calm Q2 compared to Q1. As the disruption to shipments continues to ease, production in China has also ramped up following the reopening of producers in Heilongjiang through Q2. Meanwhile, production in Africa continued to rise, despite terrorist attacks in the graphite mining region of Cabo Delgado, Mozambique which appear to have so far had a limited impact on supply. With a return to higher production levels and an easing of shipping disruption, prices for graphite products have plateaued in recent months, but they remain high in the face of rapidly rising battery demand.
