Commodity Market Report
Global lead short-term outlook February 2019
Report summary
Lead's middling price performance belied the fact that fundamental influences - often in opposite - were pulling the price in different directions. Supply worries were the primary focus for markets anxious over Australian flooding and a Korean smelter fire slashing lead availability. Counteracting these fears was a rise in LME refined lead stocks and a multi-year low in cancelled warrants - until 33kt of cancellations once again gave market participants sleepless nights. Spot treatment charges have seen little change and remain around $15/t CIF MCP, but portents point to a rise in coming months.
