Commodity Market Report
Global nickel short-term outlook September 2019
Report summary
Since jumping by 16% late in August, nickel prices moderated slightly in September as the market took stock of Indonesia's announcement to bring the ore export ban forwards by two years. The early ban will severely limit nickel feed supply to Chinese NPI smelters, potentially forcing them to cut production substantially. The lost nickel supply will leave the global market with a substantial deficit in 2021.
