Asset Report
Hibbing iron ore mine
Report summary
Hibbing is a surface mine located in Minnesota's Mesabi Iron Range, approximately 16 kilometres north of the namesake city. The operation is jointly owned by Cleveland-Cliffs and US Steel. Hibbing produces a 65%-Fe pellet product which is either transported to affiliated blast furnaces or sold into the open market to customers in the US and Canada. In September 2020, Cleveland-Cliffs acquired almost all of ArcelorMittal USA's operations, including the latter's 62.3% ownership stake at Hibbing. Hibbing's output fell more than 14% in 2022 after an outstanding performance in 2021. However, if anything changes about permits and new leases, we foresee 2025 as the final year of production for the mine.
