Hope Bay gold mine
Report summary
The Hope Bay mine is located 160km above the Arctic Circle in Nunavut, Canada, where remote and climatic conditions are harsh. Snow accumulation begins in September with ice remaining until the following June. Sea access is generally available for 1-2 months of the year. Bulk materials and supplies are to be moved to site by barge from Hay River, with other supplies and personnel transported to and from the site by aircraft. Commercial production commenced in May 2017 and currently, mine life is till 2034. In 2022 and 2023, production activities will remain suspended as the operation will focus on exploration.
