Huaron zinc mine
Report summary
Huaron is a polymetallic underground operation which has been in production since 1972. The current (2022) milling capacity is 3.1kt/d ore. The nearest city of Cerro de Pasco is a major mining center and the capital of the region, with a population of approximately 70,000. On March 16, 2020 the Peruvian government mandated stopping and/or restricting the activities of mine operations. Based on this Pan American Silver announced the temporarily suspension of its four mines in Peru: Shahuindo, La Arena, Huaron and Morococha.
