Indiana Harbor East produces hot‑rolled, cold‑rolled, and HDG products and operates a single blast furnace (BF). The largest in North America, BF #7 holds a hot‑metal capacity of about 5.5 Mtpa, received a reline in 2021 and a succesful hydrogen‑injection trial in 2024. The plant, formerly part of ArcelorMittal USA, was acquired by Cleveland‑Cliffs in 2020. The transaction brought a legacy contract of 1.5 Mtpa slab with Calvert steel plant, which ended in December 2025, after 5 years. Indiana Harbor East also supplied hot metal to the nearby Cliffs' Riverdale mill until its 2025 idling, underscoring its continued role as a competitive hot metal source in Cliffs’ integrated network.
