The Island gold mine is an underground mining operation with an original ore processing design capacity of 900t/d in a carbon-in-pulp (CIP) mill. Alamos acquired the mine through the acquisition of Richmont Mines Ltd. in 2017. Commercial production commenced in 2007. Annual gold production ramped up to 150koz in 2019 through the Phase II mill expansion to 1.2kt/d. In 2020, Alamos released details of the Phase 3 expansion study which would increase throughput to 2,000t/d and extend the mine life to 2035. In 2022, the study was expanded (Phase 3+) to increase throughput to 2,400t/d by 2026 and extend mine life to 2039.
