Itabira is an operating surface iron ore mine complex in Minas Gerais, Brazil, owned and operated by Vale. The complex, which includes the Cauê and Conceição processing facilities, produces a mix of fines and concentrate for both the seaborne export market and Vale's domestic pellet plants. It is one of Vale's primary sources of pellet feed, with a significant share considered Direct Reduction (DR) grade. The site operates using conventional open-pit mining of sub-50% Fe grade raw ore, primarily from the Conceição and Minas do Meio deposits. To improve operational sustainability, Vale has installed filter press plants at both Conceição and Cauê, which together filter around 80% of the generated tailings.
