Asset Report
Itabira (Southeastern System) iron ore mine
Report summary
Itabira is a mining complex owned and operated by Vale located in the namesake city of Minas Gerais state, Brazil. The complex is comprised of two operational facilities: Cauê and Conceição. Itabira produces a mixture of fines and concentrate products for the seaborne export market and Vale's pellet plants located in Tubarão, Espírito Santo state. Itabira is set to run with limited capacity in 2021 as a result of constraints in tailings disposal. We expect the complex's output to reach its full capacity rate just by 2023 with the start-up of filtering plants and dry stacking activities. Itabira's C1 direct cash cost increased substantially in 2021 primarily as a result of higher diesel prices. Going forward, we anticipate a hike in the average cost outlook for the operation.
