Itabira (Southeastern System) iron ore mine

Report summary

Itabira is a mining complex owned and operated by Vale located in the namesake city in Minas Gerais state, Brazil. The complex is comprised of two operational facilities: Cauê and Conceição. Itabira produces a mixture of fines and concentrate products for the seaborne export market and Vale's pellet plants. In 2011, Vale announced a series of investments at the complex (the so-called Itabiritos projects) aimed at upgrading its facilities to enable the processing of low-grade itabirite ores. We estimate Itabira to have an average C1 direct cash cost that positions it in the first quartile of our global seaborne cost curve.
