The prevailing tone at this year's IZA Europe conference on May 4-5, was one of cautious optimism. European zinc metal consumers reported modest improvements in first-quarter demand, with steel-related end-users showing the most notable signs of recovery, underpinned by infrastructure spending and the gradual deployment of previously announced policy changes and stimulus packages. Against a backdrop of gradually improving demand, spot market availability of zinc metal in Europe has deteriorated markedly. While spot enquiries have increased in line with demand, multiple consumers noted that procuring metal on the open market has become increasingly difficult.
