The Juanicipio Project is owned by Minera Juanicipio S.A de C.V., a joint venture between Fresnillo plc (56%) and MAG Silver (44%). The project is located in central Zacatecas State, approximately 70km by road northwest of the state capital, Zacatecas city. The proposed mining method is long-hole open stoping with cemented backfill. The 1400kt/a processing plant is planned to produce a silver-rich lead concentrate, a zinc concentrate, and a gold-rich pyrite concentrate. The 1.4Mt/a ore project could not start operations in 2021 because of lack of electricity. The Federal Commission of Electricity (Comision Federal de Electricidad) indicated to Fresnillo at the end of Dec 2021 that there would be a delay of 6 months to connect the electricity to the national power grid because of lack of staff.
