Khumani iron ore mine
Report summary
Khumani is a surface mine in the Northern Cape Province of South Africa and is operated by Assmang, a 50/50 venture between Assore and African Rainbow Minerals. The mine has a capacity of 14 Mtpa and all of its output is sold in the seaborne market. Production was flat in 2022 at 13 Mt due to compromised water-supply reliability and logistic challenges. A technical bottleneck at the jig plant restricts the amount of beneficiated ore and caps production at 14 Mtpa. Mining and processing costs in local currency terms increased above inflation again but were offset as a result of the weaker local currency.
