The Los Chancas deposit is located to the west of the Las Bambas project in the Pocohuanca district of the Apurimac region in southern Peru. According to the Dec 2020 Feasibility Study, the operations are expected to comprise of a conventional open pit operation with an 80kt/d ore conventional Cu-Mo concentrator and an 30kt/d oxide ore or 30-35.0kt/a SxEw cathode processing facility. Both circuits are expected to start at the same time. For this the oxide ore from the upper zone initially was expected to be stockpiled until production starts. These stocks are expected to feed the SxEw plant for the initial 10 years. The first years of operation, the concentrator was expected to be fed with high-grade secondary sulphide ore and later on with chalcopyrite ore. The mine life was expected to be 17.5 years and the life stripping ratio 1.12.
