Mercedes is a mechanised decline access underground mine located in the state of Sonora, northwest Mexico. Five separate underground mine areas includes the Mercedes, Barrancas-Lagunas, Lupita, Diluvio and Rey de Oro. The mine began production in 2011, with an ore extraction rate of between 1,700tpd to 1,900tpd. The processing plant has a capacity of 2,200 tpd, including three-stage crushing, grinding, a Carbon-in-Leach (CIL) circuit, a cyanide destruction circuit and a Merrill-Crowe process. The doré produced is shipped off site for further refining, the slag is returned to the grinding circuit for re-processing. A tailing storage facility is planned for expansion of capacity to sustain operations until the end of the mine life.
