Metalkol (RTR) SxEw copper mine project
Report summary
The project involves the re-treatment of oxide tailings produced by the mineral concentrator facility in Kolwezi, which processed high-grade ore from KOV and other nearby mines from 1952 onwards. During the operation of the Kolwezi plant, tailings containing significant amounts of copper and cobalt were discharged into two dams, referred to as Kingamyambo and Musonoi. Kingamyambo, which is a conventional tailings dam, contains 42.3Mt of tailings and reaches a height of 20m.
