Report summary
Conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo between the allegedly Rwandan-backed M23 group and local forces threatens to impact the variety of metals produced in the central African country. A major cobalt and copper producer, as well as notable supplier of gold and technology metals, the DRC is an important link in global supply chains. Although most of the major mines are outside current M23 territory, renewed fighting in the country threatens its position as an up-and-coming metals producer and will make it harder for the country to achieve its goal of becoming a major mining destination.
