Minas Rio is an iron ore mining project in Brazil being developed by Anglo American. The mine is located in the northeast corner of the Quadrilátero Ferrífero (QF) region in Minas Gerais state, near the town of Conceição do Mato Dentro. Anglo American purchased 49% of the project from MMX in 2007 and the remaining 51% in 2008, for a total purchase price of US$5.5 billion. Minas Rio is currently facing delays to secure some of its licenses as Anglo needs to further demonstrate its ongoing commitment with the operation's footprint. This has resulted lower-than-expected production volumes since the operation started in 2014.
