The Mount Isa complex consists of a lead/zinc mine, a copper mine, a lead smelter and a copper smelter. The lead/zinc section is made up of the George Fisher underground mine, the recently started Lady Loretta underground mine, the Black Star open pit and the Handlebar Hill open pit. Both George Fisher and Lady Loretta were expected to ramp up to target output of 4.5Mt/a and 1.6Mt/a respectively in 2015 after successfully completing expansion projects. However, in October Glencore announced that it would suspend mining at Lady Loretta and reduce output at George Fisher in order to 'preserve the value' of these assets at a 'time of low lead and zinc prices'. In the accompanying analysis we have assumed that mining will restart at Lady Loretta in early 2018 and increase from George Fisher at the same time.
