Mount Polley is an open pit copper-gold mining operation with a underground component in British Columbia, Canada. The mine operated between 1997 and 2001, when production was suspended due to the then prevailing low metal prices. Production resumed in March 2005. In August 2014, a breach of the tailings storage facility occurred causing water and tailings to be released into the surrounding area and lake. The mine remained on care and maintenance for a year whilst re-mediation and rehabilitation were ongoing. Mount Polley restarted in August 5, 2015.
