Nkana copper refinery
Report summary
The refinery is located at Kitwe on the Zambian Copperbelt adjacent to the Nkana smelter. Road and rail links to export ports are adequate. From 1992 the Zambian Government had looked at privatisation of ZCCM. After protracted investigations and negations with several consortiums and individual companies, in December 1999 Anglo American, through its subsidiary ZCI, agreed to purchase Nchanga, Konkola and Nampundwe. The new ownership would be ZCI 65%, ZCCM 20%, IFC 7.5% and CDC 7.5%. ...
