Report summary
PolyMet Mining's NorthMet project is part of the Duluth Complex in north east Minnesota. Initial development plans are to produce separate copper and nickel concentrates for sale, with estimated annual production targets of 72Mlbs of copper, 15.4Mlbs of nickel, 720,000lbs of cobalt and 106,000 troy ounces of previous metals. In November 2015 PolyMet announced that it had completed the Final Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the project. In 2023, NewRange Copper Nickel LLC was established as a 50:50 joint venture between Teck Resources Limited and PolyMet Mining Corp. to conduct NorthMet project. Following NewRange's designation as a Federal Permitting Transparency Project in 2025, granting it federal permitting priority, Wood Mackenzie currently forecasts a production start-up in 2031, however, it could be delayed.
