Northmet nickel project

Report summary

PolyMet Mining's NorthMet project is part of the Duluth Complex in north east Minnesota. Initial development plans are to produce separate copper and nickel concentrates for sale, with estimated annual production targets of 72Mlbs of copper, 15.4Mlbs of nickel, 720,000lbs of cobalt and 106,000 troy ounces of previous metals. In November 2015 PolyMet announced that it had completed the Final Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the project and that this document would be published in the Minnesota Environmental Quality Board Monitor (November 9) and the Federal Register (November 13), effectively signalling that the company had complied with all the necessary environmental regulations required to proceed with the project's development.  Wood Mackenzie conservatively estimates start-up in 2020.
