Report summary
The smelter was constructed in 1965 as a custom smelter using conventional reverberatory/converter technology. Originally the reverberatory furnaces were oil fired but economics dictated conversion to coal firing in 1979. Additionally a tyre shredder and an oil pyrolysis plant were installed to enable used tyres to be consumed as a fuel and to further reduce fuel costs.
