Peñasquito is an open-pit mine operation with a 25kt/d heap leach facility and a conventional sulphide plant with a design capacity of 124kt/d of sulphide ore. Additionally, in Q3 2018 a PLP circuit was added to the sulphide plant to process gold/silver pyrite sulphides. The processing plants produce zinc concentrate, lead concentrate and Au-Ag dore. Dore produced in the oxide circuit is processed in Met-Mex smelter in Torreon, and concentrates are transported to smelters in Mexico, North America, Asia and Europe. The Met-Mex smelter is located 400km away and the Manzanillo port, used for concentrate exports, is located 800km away from the mine.
