Pirquitas zinc mine
Report summary
Pirquitas is a mining operation that consists of two satellite properties. From December 2009 to January 2017, the Pirquitas deposit, an Ag-Sn epithermal deposit, was exploited through a conventional open pit mine. The processing facility has a mill capacity of 4ktpd. While it processed ore from Pirquitas, it produced silver and zinc concentrates. Throughout most of 2017 and half of 2018, the mill processed stockpiled ore until the Chinchillas deposit was available. The Chinchillas Ag-Zn-Sn epithermal deposit is being exploited through a conventional open pit mine. The processing facility was modified to produce lead concentrate with high silver content, and zinc concentrate. All concentrates are trucked to the port of Antofagasta for shipment. The Pirquitas and Chinchilla properties are 42km apart.
