Scully iron ore mine
Report summary
Scully, otherwise known as Wabush, is a mid-sized surface mine owned and operated by Tacora Resources located approximately 950 kilometres northeast of Montreal in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. Tacora acquired Scully in July 2017 from Cleveland-Cliffs , which idled the operation's pellet plant in 2013 and mining and processing facilities in 2014. Production at Scully restarted in 2019, with its final concentrate capacity slated to be reached by 2023. Tacora has undertaken certain steps to restart Scully and significantly improve its cost structure. Those include the negotiation and signing of a new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) with the United Steelworkers (USW) union and the decision to become a concentrate-only operation.
