Tasiast gold mine

Report summary

Tasiast is a conventional open pit mining operation where lower grade ore is treated via dump leaching whilst higher grade ore is processed via three stage crush, ball milling and agitated leaching followed by carbon-in-leach. The final product is gold doré produced on site and in 2016, the mine produced 175koz of gold. A phased approach to expansion is planned, expanding the mill capacity from 8 to 12kt/d (Phase 1) and a further expansion to 30Kt/d by 2020 (Phase 2). In September 2017, Kinross announced a decision to proceed with Phase 2 expansion at Tasiast following completion of a feasibility study.
