Tasiast gold mine

Tasiast gold mine

Report summary

Tasiast is a conventional open pit mine which commenced production in 2008. Lower grade ore is processed via heap leaching whilst higher grade ore is processed via three stage crushing, ball milling and a carbon-in-leach circuit. Kinross completed a feasibility study on a mill expansion programme in 2014 but the development of the 38kt/d expansion has been indefinitely postponed owing to the difficult price environment. Plans as of 2016, include a two-phase expansion from current capacity of 8Kt/a to 30Kt/d by 2020.
