The EU shields its steel

As global tariff tensions rise, the EU is moving to tighten steel import rules. The European Commission plans to cut Tariff Rate Quotas sharply and raise duties on out-of-quota products. The move aims to curb global overcapacity, rein in rising Chinese exports, and respond to new US tariffs—while addressing domestic steelmakers’ concerns that the current structure doesn't align with weak demand.
