WA nickel producers gear-up for the EV-olution
Report summary
On October 5, Wood Mackenzie's Senior Research Manager, Angela Durrant, presented the keynote address to the annual Paydirt nickel conference in Perth, Western Australia. The conference was attended by many West Australian nickel producers as well as the Australian Government's Minister for Mines, Energy and Petroleum, the Honourable Bill Johnston MLA. In the presentation, Angela provided Wood Mackenzie's current view of the nickel market and how we expect supply, demand and prices to change over the short to longer term. Particular focus is given to how nickel prices have been buoyed by the energy transition, which for nickel has meant ever increasing interest in the electric vehicle supply chain and production of nickel sulphate to feed EV batteries.
