The Wassa mine is located in the Western region of Ghana along the Ashanti Greenstone Belt, 80km north of Cape Coast and 150km west of the capital of Accra. Wassa is an underground mining operation with the ore treated in a 2.7Mt/a conventional carbon-in-leach (CIL) processing facility. Production from the underground mine commenced in 2016 with open pit mining suspended in Q1 2018 to focus on higher grade, higher margin underground reserves. In 2020, Golden Star continued to supplement underground mill feed with stockpiled ore.
