Weiqiao Hongtai aluminium smelter
Report summary
Weiqiao moved 2.03 million coal-fired aluminium capacity from Shandong to Yunnan province in pursuit of green hydropower and low carbon emission. Planned investment RMB 17 billion (US$ 2.6bn). When the project achieves full operation, it will be the largest low-carbon aluminium smelter in the world and contribute to greatly reduce carbon emission. The new smelter would produce a high proportion of liquid metal and supply green aluminium to the cooperative Chuangxin semis plants.
