Our research shows that approximately 5% of Western Australia’s total awarded tenement area is covered by an Aboriginal Heritage Area. This does not seem much at face value, but when we look at the location of these areas, some operators have a greater exposure to protected areas than others. The Western Australia Aboriginal Heritage Act is currently under review with the draft bill expected to be released this year. In this insight we look at the current situation regarding the location of Heritage areas, what might change under the new Act and what this means for Western Australian iron ore mining companies.
