Will jarosite residue continue to dampen China’s refined zinc production?
Report summary
The environmental crackdown in China, particularly on zinc smelters producing jarosite waste, contributed to the sharp drop in Chinese refined production in 2018. In this insight we look at the challenges facing smelters producing jarosite waste and whether they will be able to take advantage of improved concentrate availability in 2019 and 2020. In 2019 growing supplies of zinc concentrate should enable a rebound in zinc output.
