Following the 2008 downturn, road fuel demand from passenger cars is going through the largest period of change in many decades. The radically changed economic environment and European Union (EU) policy initiatives are having significant effects on the passenger car stock, the fuel efficiency of passenger cars and driving patterns. In the coming years, these factors will have a substantial impact on fuel demand.
