On 18 March, President Trump held a call with Vladimir Putin, discussing a potential 30-day ceasefire with Ukraine. Russia agreed to pause attacks on energy infrastructure but rejected a fuller ceasefire. Further US-Russia ceasefire talks are set for 23 March in Saudi Arabia. Based on the dynamics of negotiations at this early stage, a peace deal effectively forced on Ukraine by the US and Russia looks like the likely outcome. This widens the difference in the US and European approaches to Russia. In this insight we look at the implications of a peace deal on Russian supply.
