Market Report
Eastern Europe solar PV outlook 2022
Report summary
This regional report analyses the 10-year outlook for solar power development in Eastern Europe and the Russian and Caspian sub-regions (EERC). Solar PV capacity in EERC will grow from around 28 GWdc by 2021 to 92 GWdc by 2031, with Poland expected to primarily drive deployment across the region. The country will install more than 23 GWdc over 2021-2031, with the EU having recently approved the country's new auction framework that should procure at least 9 GW of renewable capacity to 2027. Meanwhile, the Russia-Ukraine war has led to a collapse in Ukrainian solar demand, with Ukraine previously expected to install over 1.2 GW in 2022. The Russian solar market will also suffer as the impacts of sanctions amplify, while solar supply into Russia will remain constrained even in a base case scenario.
