Europe power supply: 2018 in review
Report summary
Using data from our Europe Energy Data Pack, these slides review the development of power supply in Europe’s largest electricity markets – Germany, France, Italy, Iberia (Spain & Portugal) and the UK – comparing volumes and flows from 2017 & 2018. An end to the drought conditions which defined 2017 led to a 28% increase in hydro generation, squeezing out supply from both gas (-9%) and coal (-10%). The combined share of wind and solar increased marginally to 17%, lifting it above coal for the first time, whilst plant availability boosted nuclear generation by 1%. Overall demand across the markets remained relatively unchanged, down <1%.>1%.>
