Increasing solar penetration is driving change in the electricity sector in Latin America
Report summary
Several countries in Latin America have witnessed renewable energy penetration into their electricity mix. As a result, regulators are modifying rules and promoting schemes to incentivize investment in these new technologies. Such has been the case for Brazil, Chile and Colombia. However, the future for renewables remains uncertain in countries like Mexico and Argentina. In Q3, Wood Mackenzie estimated 9.6 GWdc of solar capacity to be installed in 2020 for the region, with around 2 GWdc being pushed into 2021 and 2022 due to coronavirus-related delays.
