The commercial and industrial (C&I) solar PV landscape in Africa: A bottom-up analysis of emerging markets and drivers

This report provides analysis of the current market dynamics and trends in the commercial and industrial (C&I) solar PV sector across the African continent. Using a new proprietary asset-level dataset built from developer reported data and publicly available announcements, Wood Mackenzie has tracked a substantial share of the total market at a granular level. The asset-level dataset accompanying this report is by no means exhaustive, but we are confident that it is the most comprehensive asset-level view of the C&I solar market in Africa to date, and does represent a highly representative sample of the market and its trends. We plan to continue to deepen our data visibility on this segment in the future. Using this bottom-up methodology, we evaluate the driving value proposition of solar from a customer’s perspective, assess obstacles to growth, and determine the potential of C&I development in key African markets through 2025.
